Reception New Topic - Potions

This new, book based topic, has really captured the children's imagination. The thought of magical characters in books creating potions for all sorts of wild and crazy spells has really got them talking, writing, role playing, adding up ingredients and being extremely creative.

The children love the Magic Potions Shop...

    "would you like some eyeballs?"

We've been reading lots of magical books.

Children have been making weird and wonderful potions and writing about the wacky ingredients … bats, frogs, rats tails, unicorn horns, princess hair, phoenix feathers, maggots etc etc.

We have been adding up the ingredients in our potions...

And creating wands...

EASTER HAT PARADE AND SPRING SONGS

As part of our Activity Celebrations throughout the year we put on an               Easter Hat Parade. Some children made their hats at home with the help             of family members and some children made them in school. Reception                  Classes also learned a song: Hip, Hip, Hooray (We’re Having A Holiday), associated with actions.
   The children were learning to
  • ü  Build their self-confidence by performing a song on stage and walking across it to display their hat.
  • ü   Develop their understanding of other faiths by learning about why Easter is celebrated.
  • ü   Sing songs and suggest movements linked to the words.
  • ü   Be imaginative about how they made their hats using a variety of materials, tools and techniques.

Many family members joined us and Nursery as we walked around the block        and back into the playground where they were cheered along by the rest of        the school. Then into the Drama Hall for the Show. Each class took their            turn to sing interspersed with an Easter Hat Catwalk. The Staff danced and        sang Chick, Chick, Chick, Chick, Chicken and loads of family members came up      on stage to do the Birdie Song. It was a great success. 9/4/19

Mount Pleasant Farm Trip

Visit to Mount Pleasant Farm

Reception went on a trip to visit Mount Pleasant Farm. We had a very enjoyable day finding out about all of the animals, how to look after them and what the animals produce.

First we fed the sheep and lambs. We felt their woolly coats.

What a smelly cow shed!

Next we learnt how to look after the chickens. We fed them and gave them water. We collected their eggs.
Then we went to see Pinky and Perky pigs. We watched them eat carrots, apples and cabbage.

Finally, we went into the cow shed. We saw calves and cows. We saw a calf being born.
Also the children enjoyed meeting Tinkerbell the farm dog.
